Just another normal day: capstone, capstone, workout, capstone, 80s dance

So last night after I got out of art, a group of us decided it would be fun to go to Goodwill to look for a fine ensemble for the 80s prom themed dance that is happening tonight. Turns out, every other girl at Prin had the same idea and the apparently endless supply of 80s dresses was completely depleted. Since the supply of neon sweaters is even more immense than the 80s dresses at the Alton Goodwill, we decided to go with the Jazzercise look. I managed to find a yellow sweatshirt with a pink and turquoise triangle pattern all over it which I will be pairing with leggings and leg warmers, a head band, big hair, orange nail polish, and high-tops.
I have managed to add another two pages to my capstone this morning, not as much as I would like but it is surprisingly more time consuming than I thought it would be. I realize that it is going much better than many other students' capstones but it is still a challenge to bust out a 20-25 page paper by next Monday.
I have gotten pretty antsy, making workouts even more appealing which is the upside I guess. So I am off to relax for an hour or so then to workout, shower, a little more capstone (maybe), and then dinner and the dance with friends.

Figure Studies: January 28th, 2011

I did this drawing yesterday afternoon of one of our only two female models. Lucky for us we get to draw naked men 90% of the time...
Anyways, this is probably the only drawing I have liked so far that I have done of a woman which was extremely surprising to me since I thought they would be much easier to draw.

Figure Studies Weeks 1-4

This is my latest drawing, done Thursday the 27th of Eric, (the pierced model). He is really great to draw though all kidding aside.
These three drawings are all of Burt, a 65+ year old man who is actually probably by favorite to draw. For some strange reason, my best drawings come from him.

Coincidence? I think not!

So ever since Kurtis and his roommate/drummer/best friend Jon have been hanging out strange coincidences have been happening. I'm talking at least one coincidence a day and crazy weird coicidences that make you think! So yesterday, my brother and his wife were flying to Scotland and of course, at Prin they served a Scottish dinner in honor of Robert Burns the famous scottish poet. This dinner included Haggis, and all the Scottish side dishes, Scottish music and the reciting of Scottish poetry.
If that isn't weird enough, I got a call from my brother on Skype yesterday while they were in Amsterdam on a stop over on their way to Scotland. I couldn't believe it! Kurtis had left earlier that morning from Seattle to fly to Finland for a gig and his stop over was in Amsterdam as well and he was landing about 45 minutes after my brother called. I gave him all of Kurtis' flight information and when Kurtis walked off of his plane, there they were waiting for him. I guess he was in shock for a good 5-10 minutes and they got to hang out for a while before they were each on their way again.
Seriously though, how crazy is that! They called me on skype from the airport so I got to hear that they were all together even though the stolen internet connection was bad.
Today we have another model in class, he'll probably be a Scot from Amsterdam at this rate. And then after class I am doing the Insanity workout with a few volleyball girls. That's right, the actual name of the workout is insanity. Dorky, yes, but easy, no. I heard from both Baba and Katie and Kurtis and they all got to their destinations safely so I can't wait to hear more.
Other than that, we had a meeting in the Chapel this morning about the enormous use of pot and $23,000 worth of theft that has happened since June. I have never seen the chapel so full, People were packed in like sardines and standing in the back. It was cool to see the sports teams all sitting together and different houses and teachers and so many faces. Eventhough it took a bad situation to bring us all together it was still pretty cool.
I am still chipping away persistantly at my 20-25 page French Capstone paper. I am actually enjoying it quite a bit, strangely enough. I like feeling productive I guess. I am hoping to have 11 pages done by tomorrow, I better get on that!

Real Life Starts Now

I just said goodbye to Kurtis as he departs on his adventure to Finland for an Apple Jam gig and then to Mexico for three months. It is definitely sad because phone calls will probably not be an option but on the other hand, I am pretty excited for the next few months and all of the cool experiences we are bound to have.
So, here I am ready to start actually being an independent woman. Although I have been on my own at college for the past three and a half years, I have always had Kurtis to lean back on when I need some comforting or reassurance. I am excited now to get out on my own, eventhough I am not going anywhere else right now, I feel different already and like I am in a new mindset.
In March I will get to go see Kurtis for a week or so which is exciting, a little refresher until my adventures in Prague.

Week 2

Once again, I am at work with not much to do. We have another model in art today but it will be a woman this time which will be a nice break. Tomorrow I am planning on starting a workout program called P90X with a girl in my house who has the dvds. I'm looking forward to it because the elliptical and stationary bike have succeeded in making me bored and don't even get me started on the treadmill.
Tonight I will be starting my Czech study with a couple of other students in the class and I am looking forward to a lot of confusion. Czech is a seemingly random language, words can me in any order and I am just waiting to see how weird it sounds. So far, from just hello and goodbye I have been a little weirded out. It sounds like a mixture between German and Russian...beautiful right?

FRIDAY!

Only week one and yet again I am releaved that it is over. How does this happen every quarter. I think I get so used to relaxed daily life at home that the sudden load of homework and miscellaneous errands are overwhelming. In art class yesterday we had our first nude model and I didn't even laugh (once he started). I walk into the room and standing in front of me is a man, or an elf king as Moon Hee described him, dressed from head to toe in black. Black leather trench coat, black shirt, skinny black pants, and black comboy boots with jangling spurs on the back that make noise whenever he took a step. He was blad on top with long hair that he somehow knotted into a ponytail like thing.
So he goes behind a wooden panel and emerges minutes later in a black robe. From there it's all a blur but I know that I definitely looked at him...no stared at him, for 3 hours. It went surprisingly well though and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next 2 dozen models I will be seeing although I understand now that we will be having this model many more times so our teacher must just really want to create an awkward situation.

Ready, Set, Go

My last quarter on campus...I can barely believe it and then I think for a second and realize how absolutely ready I am for this. I have been doing three hours of art class every afternoon from 2-5 p.m. So far we are mostly just drawing a skeleton from all angles and studying bone terminology but today we have a special treat in store for us. That's right, we have a model today. A real life model that will be completely naked in front of us for three hours. I must say, I can hold back a laugh when I need to as long as I am alone but there just so happens to be about a dozen other people in the class, some of which laugh so hard that they cry when the teacher describes the "pubic arch". That's right, I'm screwed. After more than a decade of carefully hiding my low maturity level, I am merely hours away from being uncovered as having a 13 year old boy's maturity level.
Great.
And in the coming 9 weeks we have 2-3 models every week. That means about 25 more such embarassing situations to just further emphasize my immaturity.
Other than art, I have been doing lots and lots of French; dictations and grammar and conjugations. I'm starting to look forward to the five 20 minute oral recordings I have to do and the 30 page paper I have to write. That means you know it's bad. All joking aside though, I actually like it quite a lot ( I know Baba, I'm crazy) and it should give me a good final grasp on these concepts.
Let's see...I've been going to the gym every morning between breakfast and work in the language department and then eating dinner with volleyball girls. It's become blatantly obvious which girls were friends with the rest of the team because they had to be and which ones were genuinely happy to be there. I have my first Prague Abroad meeting this Friday from 7-9. As if we didn't have a lame enough social life, they seem to be trying to take away our chances of having any kind of social life away. My first visiting weekend (I'm an admissions ambassador again) is next weekend and then 5th and 8th weekend too. Those should be fun as always.
Off to another day, lots to do...but right now it's watching Modern Family in bed.
